Tattoo FAQs: And What to Expect

How much does a tattoo cost?

The cost of getting a tattoo can vary significantly based on a variety of factors that influence the pricing structure. Our hourly charges range from $120 to $200, with a minimum fee of $120 for any tattoo session. This pricing reflects the expertise and skill of our artists, as well as the quality of the materials used during the tattooing process. Factors that can affect the overall cost include the size of the tattoo, the complexity of the design, the location on the body, and the time required to complete the piece. Larger and more intricate tattoos that require more time and detail will naturally cost more. To obtain an exact estimate tailored to your specific design and preferences, we highly recommend scheduling a free consultation with one of our experienced artists or visiting your local studio with a reference image. This way, you can discuss your vision in detail and receive personalized guidance on the pricing.

I have an idea in mind but how where do I start?

If you have a tattoo idea brewing in your mind, the first step is to conduct thorough research on the styles that resonate with you. It can be incredibly beneficial to gather reference photos that showcase the designs you admire, as visual aids can help communicate your vision more effectively. Next, take the time to research tattoo studios or individual artists in your area; look for portfolios that align with the aesthetic you desire. Once you have narrowed down your options, it’s essential to choose a studio where you feel comfortable and welcomed. If you decide that you want to book an appointment with one of our talented artists, please visit the booking page, select your preferred location, and schedule a free consultation. During this meeting, we can answer any further questions you may have about your new ink, discuss your design in detail, and ensure that you feel confident moving forward with your tattoo.

Do I need to book an appointment?

While booking an appointment is not strictly necessary, it is strongly recommended to ensure you receive the best possible service and to secure your preferred time slot. If you are considering a walk-in for a tattoo, we suggest that you call the shop ahead of time to inquire about any potential openings. Keep in mind that walk-in appointments are typically filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early can increase your chances of being accommodated. Additionally, you can check our availability to book appointments online, making the process more convenient. If you have already finalized your design, same-day appointments may be available, allowing you to get inked without delay.

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

When preparing for your tattoo appointment, it is crucial to bring a valid piece of government-issued photo identification that clearly displays your date of birth. This identification is necessary for you to fill out our mandatory release form, and without it, we will not be able to proceed with the tattooing process. Additionally, you may want to bring along some water or snacks to keep your energy levels up during a longer session, as staying hydrated and nourished can contribute to a more comfortable experience.

What should I do to prepare for getting a tattoo?

In preparation for your tattoo, it is essential to ensure that you are well-rested, well-fed, and in a sound state of mind and body. It is highly advisable to avoid arriving at your appointment feeling hung-over, extremely upset, or otherwise unwell, as these conditions can negatively impact your overall experience and pain tolerance during the tattooing process. Taking care of yourself leading up to your appointment will help you to better manage any discomfort and enjoy the experience more fully.

Do I need to be over 18 years old?

For individuals who are at least 16 years old, it is mandatory to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can provide appropriate identification at the time of the appointment. The decision to tattoo someone who is 16 years old ultimately lies with the artist, and they may consider the content and placement of the tattoo as deciding factors. If the artist agrees to proceed, your parent or guardian must present a government-issued ID for themselves, as well as an additional form of identification for the minor. In cases where the signee is a legal guardian, legal documentation proving guardianship will be required. After the appointment has been scheduled and the necessary paperwork is completed, the parent or guardian does not need to be present during the actual tattoo session. Please note that we will not accept signed notes or phone calls from anyone other than a parent or legal guardian, which includes older siblings, aunts, friends, cousins, etc.

Do tattoos hurt?

The experience of pain during a tattoo varies from person to person, as everyone's pain tolerance is different. Most individuals describe the sensation of getting tattooed as mildly painful, but it is important to note that certain areas of the body may cause more discomfort than others due to variations in skin sensitivity and thickness. There are numbing creams available that can be used during the tattooing process; however, their effectiveness can differ from person to person. If you are considering using any numbing products, we encourage you to discuss this option with your artist before your appointment. At Mor Ink Tattoo, we also offer our own line of premium numbing cream to enhance your comfort during the session.

Do you do finger tattoos or inner lip tattoos?

In recent years, there has been a noticeable trend of getting inner-finger and inner-lip tattoos. Finger Tattoos: We do offer finger tattoos, but it is important to be candid about the fact that they rarely heal well due to the nature of the skin on the fingers. Fingers are non-porous compared to other areas of the body, and because of frequent use, movement, and wear, the skin is constantly regenerating. This can lead to the ink “falling out” or “blowing out” over time. As we cannot guarantee the quality of the final product, please be aware that any touch-ups required for finger tattoos will be at your own expense.Inner-Lip Tattoos:Some of our skilled artists are willing to perform inner-lip tattoos; however, similar to finger tattoos, they often do not heal well due to the unique characteristics of the tissue in that area. The inner lip is generally non-porous and is in constant contact with your teeth, and it is always moist. This can result in the ink “falling out” or “blowing out” just like with finger tattoos. Because we cannot guarantee the quality of the final product, any necessary touch-ups for inner-lip tattoos will also be at your expense.

What kind of tattoo ink do you use?

At Mor Ink Tattoo, we take pride in being an Allagory Ink recognized studio, which means we utilize high-quality inks supplied by reputable Canadian distributors for our artists to use. All of our artists are required to use ink that is sourced from Canadian suppliers, ensuring both quality and safety. Additionally, the majority of tattoo inks available from Canadian distributors are also vegan, making them a suitable choice for those who are conscious about animal products. If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding the tattoo ink we use, please feel free to speak with your artist directly before your appointment to ensure you are fully informed.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans change unexpectedly. Therefore, we do have a cancellation policy in place. We require at least 24 hours' notice for any re-scheduling or cancellation of appointments. If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours' notice, a cancellation fee will apply, which can range from $50 to $200 depending on the artist's rate. This policy helps us manage our schedule effectively and ensures that our artists' time is respected.
